At the end of 2022, there was a new craze. No, not a new Korean band or a new Pokemon, but a new kitchen gadget. A kitchen gadget that would bring lovely, delicious, crispy air fried food!!! The Ninja Food MAX. And I couldn’t wait to jump in.
Let’s do a Sunday Roast!!
Surprise, surprise, the air fryer doesn’t just air fry. It has a lot of different cooking options including Max Crisp, Air Fry, Dehydrate, Roast, Bake, and Reheat. Not only can it do all these cooking options, but they can be applied independently to each one of the two cooking zones. Now that’s what I call cool… or should I say hot!!!
As it was a Sunday, I thought let’s try and cook a good old Sunday roast chicken. Now, you may be thinking there is no way a whole chicken can fit in one of those trays, but as you can see from the photo, it can comfortably accommodate a medium size chicken.
After just under an hour of cooking, a nicely coloured and surprisingly still succulent chicken is ready to be eaten!!
Overall Thoughts
For me, the jury is still out on this.
For a single person, or a couple, I can see how it may be beneficial, but to cook for a family of four or more is tricky as it can’t be left on its own devices, like a slow cooker.
Roasting and air frying meats and vegetables, such as carrots and parsnips, is brilliant. However, the downside is that food needs to be turned regularly to cook evenly i.e. frozen chips; chicken wings, roast potatoes – anything that isn’t in one layer. Mind you, you normally have to do this when using a conventional oven, so it shouldn’t be anything you are not used to.
It is very easy to clean (says my mum) – a good non stick interior means soaking is not necessary.
As there are some many different options, I’ve not used them all yet, and its not completely obvious to me if its cheaper to run but I would imagine it is as it cooks much quicker than a conventional oven.
Verdict
I must say that I have bought and tried many kitchen gadgets, and most of them are now in some box in the cupboard, but this still has pride of place on the kitchen counter is regularly used. So if you like fried stuff and you want to get it quickly, either live next to a fried chicken shop or get one of these bad boys.
